Thom is the School Guidance Counselor at Paradise Honors High School in Surprise, Arizona. Thom began working in peer helping in 1979 when he and Florence Cranshaw started the first peer counseling program in Massachusetts at Dover Sherborn High School. He has been an active trainer, having provided training for more than 50 different peer helping programs. He co-taught a graduate course in peer helping for 10 years at Northeastern University. He has been an adjunct professor in the Graduate School Counseling program at Suffolk University in Boston, Ma.
He was one of the original founders of the Massachusetts Peer Helping Association.
Currently, Thom taught a Leadership Development course at Wellesley High School and just completed his term as Executive Director for the Massachusetts School Counselors Association.
